This air comes from the playing of the great Tony MacMahon and, in his words, “commemorates the hundreds of thousands of Irish men who, over the centuries, have died in the service of foreign armies, mainly the armies of France.” MacMahon learned it from the playing of Seamus Ennis, who supposed the text of the song lost; however a vocal version of the Wounded Hussar was recorded by Frank Harte on his album “My Name is Napoleon Bonaparte.”
